I have a lot of interests, especially related to engineering and technology. Today I will write about the questions I have regarding helping students build their reading and writing skills. At the HCT, students usually make big promises, and then at the end of a semester find ways out of their work. One area that is of particular interest to me is how to help students keep motivated to improve and develop their reading and writing skills since this is the area many have most difficulties. Let me express my basic views on reading, writing, and portfolios to assist both.
ReplyDeleteReading is something you need to do, and do a lot of it in order to improve. As a second language speaker of English you need to spend time reading English if you want to improve the skill. It takes time, but the time you spend will open doors for you later. To get good – you need to read. You need to read a lot about things that 1) interest you, and 2) build you general knowledge about the world we live in.
Writing is something we also need to develop. It is my feeling that one (and just one way) to help build our writing skills is to write a lot. We can write about what we are reading – and this will help you communicate what you are learning from readings. Most importantly writing will help you build long-term memory from what you are reading about and the act of writing will help you build the skills you need related to literacy in English.
A portfolio should be something you are interested in. I feel you can all develop reading and writing is you have a portfolio of readings which are accompanied by written reflections. You should review the portfolio daily. This is where I see things go wrong – daily. At the beginning of last semester we all agreed that there were more than 4 months in the semester or about 120 days. This is a long semester. We agreed that 20 readings (from Google Alerts) would be easy – at in the end some could do it. Most did not. Most copied 20 articles at the end of the semester and handed them in. This is NOT an effective way to develop and I think you will probably agree.
So today your task is to tell me, what three area you hope to read about. If you know of more areas please tell me. Make three Google Alerts from you list and tell me which three you have selected and why. State if you agree that the goal I have (a better portfolio) is a good idea or not.
I am interested in hearing from you. You will reflect here frequently.

ReplyDeleteSince we do have a good chunk of time tonight, please find one article about each of the three topics and use a quote from them. It may be a good idea to compose your thoughts in Word, but you can decide.

ReplyDeleteToday, we are talking about something I’m interesting in which is Technology. First of all, part we talked about the general idea in technology and I have pick three of general topics:
ReplyDelete• Transport.
• Entertainment.
• Communication.
I have downloaded general information about this topics and I chooses my favorite entertainment which is PlayStation3. Also, about transport and communication I have found simple and easy information.
In the reading about transport I learned that the transports are divided into infrastructure, vehicles, and operations.
The first day was nice specially Mr.Steve's class, as always. Today Steve asked as to choose any three articles relate to technology. I searched for Rockets, Pocket PCs and Turbos.

For today's class we were asked to mention kinds of technology and we had many. Then, we were asked to choose three kinds of technology and look for articles about them, for me i choosed transportation,entertainment and communication and the reason is because i am interested in them and i have some of these technology. Also, i think it's related to what we are studying because w have some examples about them in our college.

Also I read and downladed about the modern communication technology and summary for new modern techonolgy.After that i looked for general information techonolgy and i looked for information technology associated with american.
Finally i looked for entertaiment technology and i not found many things so i downloaded about effect for entertaiment technology and it is amazimg search.
Also I learned many things because it is related for our course.

The history of computer stared in 1936 with Z1 Computer which is invented by Konrad Zuse. Nowadays, we have a very great invention which is Microsoft windows.Easy to contact with anybody in everywhere by using a computer.

Back at it, semester two here I come.
ReplyDeleteToday we brainstormed technology. We had a spider diagram on the board and listed many topics. I decided to look at three.
I looked at GT-R Cobra, Nokia N96 and Anime Cartoon.
The GTR collect more than a transport function as it is a luxurious car with a sport condition...the fastest car in it's own serial
Looking at the cell phone I found a new generation of a nokia mobile creating anew device which is N96 .. which has a video game with and lots easy touch in communicating people
the history of anime tells us how they create it and how much different has been changed by using the technology.
today at the third class we are look at Technology and all of us says some thing about it then mr.Steve say to us to chose three things about Technology.

Today's class we talked about technology . Then, we tryed to choose three kinds of technology. I choosed laptop,flash memory and concord.

I have looked at Video games, Video sharings and Caculators.
At the end of the class I got some good points about it:
1- There are alot of the entertainment devices such as PS3,PSP, X-Box and many.
2- There are many video sharing websites and the best one is Youtube.
3- There many types of calculators and it very small and expensive, and the expensive kind of it is that one which used in solving the complicated equations.
To sum up, there are many useful information and technology has big effect in our life.
It’s a nice day especially it’s the first day of semester two.

I’ve read about Messenger, Fishing boat and Glasses. Some information I now it and read it to the first time. Messenger has been collected from Internet services provided by Microsoft. And there are many different boats to catch fish and we use little in the UAE. Also, Glasses has been used from the past after that it takes new shapes nowadays

ReplyDeleteYesterday I found three articles related to technology on the internet. I looked at articles that address: Pocket PCs, Rockets and Turbo. In the following short writing I want to expand on yesterday’s findings and share more of the information from the articles.
In article 1, about Pocket PCs, three points that were made were:
1- History. It mentioned the beginnings of the Pocket PC and a few add-ons devices for PPCs.
2- Definition and components. It defined the Pocket PCs and mentioned the components of any Pocket PC.
3- Versions. Discussed many versions starting from WM 6.1 to WM 3. It talked barely about the details of each version.
In article 2, about ___(topic 2)__, three points that were made were: 1, 2, 3. (write 30 - 50 words from the article).
In article 3, about ___(topic 3)__, three points that were made were: 1, 2, 3. (write 30 - 50 words from the article).
The article that is most interesting to me is article (?). I think this way because .... (write 30-60 words connecting the content to your interests or your life).
