Welcome to the 2TA blog from me. I know that most of you have already been here, and you are seeing how useful it can be to think about your studies and, in this case, about your reading. I hope you will use it to expand the way you see technology. You have probably realized that technology is something I am very interested in, and I am very happy to be working with students who share my interest. This semester I want to explore the whole world of technology with you.
Yesterday (Monday) you started making mind-maps in groups on large sheets of paper. I would like you to choose an area from your mind-map and find one article which is related to it. I would like you to do the following with it:
1) Tomorrow (Wednesday) – update your mind-map by adding the topic of your article
2) Also tomorrow (Wednesday) – please give me a copy of the article so I have an idea what you are reading.
3) Think about the following, and put your thoughts on the blog:
- Which area of technology is your article about?
- How does your article connect to the mind-map?
- Is the writer positive, negative or neutral towards the technology in the article?
- Imagine you are explaining your article to a friend. What are the main points you would talk about?

I did an exercise online on exam English website (attached) it was about flights and what’s the benefit from it and what can the passenger do while they are in the flight to decrease fear and be prepared. I read an article in the guardian weekly newspaper about “Prevention of breast cancer ‘is possible’ but resources fall short” and how women who breastfeeding their babies for two years have lower risk with having breast cancer than those who are in the developed countries with small family. I also read an article with a topic “Huge study gives wake-up calls on state of world’s oceans”. It’s about how pollution and climate change affected the life of the living seas. The sharks also in danger of extinction along with the animals that are living in the north pool with the melting ice. It’s not good that we, the human are responsible about these disasters and our hand is the main factor behind this. I would greatly support the pollution campaigns and use stuff that cannot harm the earth nature.
ReplyDeleteTechnology is a wide area and has a lot of branches, but today I had decided to talk about mobile phones specificity in (Flexible Displays phones) which they will be soon in the shops. This part of technology goes under the communication section of Technology mind map. I had noticed when I am reading the article which was titled “ keep your eye on flexible displays coming soon” that the writer was positive about technology because the way of writer shows the he was very exciting and he explains his thought and information very well. From looking to the article a flexible cell phone is a modern device in the cells phones world, it has a moving and fixable displays which has a high quality of colors and images, in addition this cell phone has a very light weight, further more it is very smart and you can use it as phone, laptop, and note book. I think it will be very useful device and a lot of people will buy it.

Hi, my article is connected to many areas f technology. The article is about the “bat-inspired spy plane”, so it is related to the transportation, communication, computing and robots. This article combines a lot area of technology and the writer is negative to this invention. From looking to the article, I read that the army of USA has awarded the College of Engineering at the University of Michigan 10 million dollars to develop the bat-inspired spy plane. This device plane would “gather data from sights, sounds and smells in urban combat zones and transmit information back to a soldier in real time.”
ReplyDeleteThe college is going to develop sensors, communication tools and batteries for this “bat”. The engineers envision tiny cameras, mini microphones and small detectors for nuclear radiation and poisonous gases.
Furthermore, there will be a sensitive navigation system to help the bat at night. The lithium battery is going to recharge itself by using the energy of solar ,wind and other natural sources.
This is what they are planning to do and I believe that its possible for them.
Ferrari Factory Tour
ReplyDeleteIn general, Technology has been sudden increase rapidly in the way they invent many useful things, and for example, car factories. I’m going to talk about Ferrari factory and its history with Enzo Ferrari who built the Ferrari Company. Enzo was born on February 18, 1898 near Modena, Italy. His father took him to automobile race in a place call Bologna. He was connected with Alfa Romeo for many years; however, he made a few sports cars bearing his name and his prancing horse badge. In 1929 a team was organized with 22 members by Enzo scored 8 victories. He left Alfa Romeo in 1940 started his own company Auto-Avio Costruzioni Ferrari. In 1944 the workshop became a victim of the world war; it was leveled by bombs. Well, he didn’t give up and started to rebuilt the shop worked began on the first ever Ferrari motorcar, the 125 Sport. Enzo sold 50% of Ferrari’s share capital to Fiat group in 1969 and in 1988that limit increased to 90 %. He died at 90 years old in Modena on August 14, 1988.
Well I guess this topic is related to the mind-map; but the subject isn’t. I thought from the first sight that this is the one which will explain to me how Ferrari technology goes rapidly up. But, as usual there is no luck for me, I was trying hard to find anything which is related to technology in Ferrari but I found pictures or headlines only. However, the writer was negative about the technology because he didn’t mention anything about it, he wrote about person in personality.
In my mind this kind of writing and his research about to be one of the technology that we miss, so I think it’s one of greatest technology in our life; writing.
Today i’ll go to write about something that is related to technology under the section of sea transportation. From my point of view i think that the writer is positive, because he explains the information widely. I collect some information about hovercraft and which it called also” air-cushion vehicle”, it has been invited to move on any soft and smooth place so it can be used over land, ice, and water. It consists of high pressure air, the hovercraft moves slowly. Nowadays they use small hovercraft in sport. It can be powered by one or more engines. The world's largest hovercraft is BHC SR-N4 and it carrying 418 passengers and 60 cars. Hovercraft is neutral towards as we can see from Wikipedia.

Nowadays technology developed our life in many ways transport, entertainment, communication and many things.

As I see it, the writer is very positive because the article is very clear and full of useful information. This article is talking about the lunch vehicle in general.
- Imagine you are explaining your article to a friend. What are the main points you would talk about?
A lunch vehicle or even called carrier is used to carry a payload from the earth into the space and it designed to use for one time. It supplied with boosters. It stands in a vertical position and the boosters are in parallel position. The phrase carrier rocket was used earlier in English language.
First of all, the area of technology that my article is about is technology and to be more specific it is about home theatre. Also, it is connected to the mind map because the article talks about the home theatre which is a part of hi technology. The writer is positive towards the technology in the article because he makes the reader interested in home theatres .The main points that I would talk about if I am going to introduce my article to a friend are the home theatre in general, equipments like speakers, dvd player, blu-ray player, mp3 player, video player, wide flat screens and how to prepare the place to have a perfect home theatre and make you enjoy what are you going to watch.

ReplyDeleteHarvard Professor Robert Wood released his newest creation recently. A very small spy machine like a bug or fly created for spy operation. This spy bug weighs 002 ounces and has wingspan of 1.18 inches. Also it mead from light weight of carbon joints furthermore, the wing can beat 110 times per minute. In addition it looks like the real mimics and movements of the real bug. There is another project of U.S. Defense Department, same idea but from wood and they try at the University of California.

It is a great invention to find its way into different sorts of things or objects that we pointed them before. It is a navigation machine. It is a popular machine but people do not know how to use it. GPS System receives the data or the information from the satellites. It is simple and we can use it everywhere. We use it for location, navigation, tracking, and mapping. I have a GPS System in my mobile phone and I use it a lot. I also used it when I was in foundations with Daniel Millie.

Rockets
ReplyDeleteMy article comes from the transportation section which is an important section that most of the countries in the world give it a big amount of caring. Of course everyone know that a rocket is considered a way of transport and thanks to the technology, transportation is developing every now and then.
This article is really enjoyable and can attract all types of readers because the writer was positive about the technology of rockets as it helps mankind to explore more things about the outer space.
There are many uses for rockets. Rockets are used for travelling. Recently, people have been using rockets to explore the space and to travel between planets. It’s also used for fireworks and weaponry.
Advanced armies use rockets as a weapon as it cause explosion when it hit an object. Another use for rockets is that it’s needed for the ejection seat. Sometimes when emergency occurs, a pilot or a crew of an aircraft needs to leave the aircraft as quick as possible. This system is designed for this kind of circumstances, as it rescue them by propelling out of the aircraft by an explosive charge.
As you can see, there are many uses for “Rocketry” and it’s really a waste for mankind to not take advantage of this mechanism.

M y articles talked about the important technology are F-16 planes. They are important area of technologies called transportation. The transport is divided to aircraft and the aircraft connect the planes then you found F-16 in this section. Also the writer is very positive for write because he explains and gives much new information to reader. F-16 fighting is very development planes and it has many features and special properties for this plane so it is unique aircraft for the future. Also this plane is more advanced than other aircraft such as F-15, F-11 because there were combined simply the airplane and reduce the size, coast and weight but it is not reduce the strength. Also this plane has highly maneuverable and it provides of high performance weapon. Also it must choose the excellent pilot to flight for this plane because the pilot must controls wires, cables and linkage controls. In addition the pilot has 2 radios plus and warning system to protect himself. However there are many types for aircraft for instead F-16 A, F-16 B. The F-16A has single seat but the F-16B has two seat models. Also it built between USA and Nato countries and use it in Afghanistan and Iraq. The main idea for this reports to explain about what is the positive and bad thing for this fighting aircraft.

ReplyDeleteMy article about one of the most famous games in the world and it competes with Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s Play Station 3 its Wii. Wii is a home video game console released by Nintendo. It’s connected to the mine map because it’s one of the modern technologies in the world. The writer is positive about the article because the way of his writing is attracting people to read his article but, there is some of hard language. The mine points I would likes to talk about are history, system sales and Wii remote.
The article I red was a report from the Guardian Newspaper at a conference which was related to the Energy section of the map of technology we drew.
ReplyDeleteTo answer your third question I had to read the article couple of times, and yes the writer and his article were negative in all sense of the word.
All of the article was Criticism toward the Government of Abu Dhabi saying that Abu Dhabi wants to overtake Dubai in this area simply because of the jealousy of its neighbor. Due to the success Dubai made in several areas such as tourism, trade and other.
After that the writer mentioned that alternative energies faces financial problems plus to the high cost of it, ending up his article with prediction by someone he interviewed at the conference saying that the problems of the funding will expire in the next five years.
In conclusion, I am pleased to read others opinion even though I disagree with most of it.

ReplyDeleteI have some comments to make to each of you, and some ideas of which area you may want to look at next. These are just ideas - you don’t have to do what I say!
KHALID - a well written entry Khalid. You have mentioned several articles, which is okay. Why don’t you choose ONE of the topics and find an article related to it. For example, you could find an article on one sea animal affected by climate change (like coral), or look at new ways to fight breast cancer.
MOHAMMED RASHED – very interesting topic Mohammed. I read an article once about future computers which you can roll up and put in your pocket. I’ve also heard about flexible circuits you can put on or under your skin. I think this is for medical purposes.
MOHAMMED ALI – a very interesting idea for a machine. Maybe your next article could be about machines, maybe in the future, that are based on other types of animals. I’m sure there are many.
AHMED KHALFAN – good post Ahmed. I’m sorry you didn’t find what you were looking for. Maybe you could try again with Google (“Ferrari technology” maybe) or go to the Ferrari web site. Also, if you are interested in a really cool electric sports car, go to www.teslamotors.com .
ABDULLA AHMED – well done Abdulla. I’ve always been interested in hovercraft, and they are getting more and more common (look at this one! http://www.oobject.com/18-hovercraft-designs/russsian-worlds-largest-military-hovercraft/3535 ) . Maybe you could find another article on hovercraft, or perhaps on hydrofoils or jetfoils.
ADNAN – a very interesting topic Adnan (careful of the spelling – “launch”). Perhaps you could find something about how rockets work (Yousef also read about rockets) or look at a reusable launch vehicle like the Space Shuttle.
FAYEZ – home entertainment is very close to my heart. I love watching movies! A very thoughtful post – well done. Perhaps you could explore home entertainment more, or look at the future technologies in houses, like computer controlled homes.
AMMAR – a great topic, well done. For your next article, you could perhaps look at other machines that use animals for their design. Mohammed Ali has also read about a spy machine (a plane) that looks like a bat.
OMAR – a very useful technology, and a good post. For your next article, why not look at the satellite system that makes GPS possible, and maybe read about how it works.
YOUSEF – well done, you have explained the article well and also given an opinion about the technology. In your next article, maybe you could read in more detail about one of the uses of rocketry - space travel, military, ejection seat etc. For example, you could find out how an ejection seat works.
MOHAMMED RABBA – good post Mohammed, and an interesting article. Airplanes are my passion, especially fast, hi-tech jets like the F-16! Perhaps for your next article, you could read about something related to the F-16, maybe jet engines, or stealth aircraft, or maybe another fast jet (F-15, F-18, F-22, Eurofighter, MiG etc.)
ABDULLA SALEH – well done Abdulla. Your post shows you have thought about the article. There will always be some hard language, but the more you read the easier it will be over time. The Wii is an interesting console. I used one during the holiday, and although the graphics were not as good as on my PS3, the motion sensor control was very enjoyable. Maybe your next article could be about one aspect of the Wii in more detail (for example the controller) or some other form of electronic entertainment. They say that Virtual Reality is the future of entertainment.
AHMED MOHAMED – an excellent post Ahmed. It is really good to see your opinion about the article. I find that the Guardian has good topics for its articles, but it is often negative about big projects. It is a little bit “left wing” and doesn’t like people with a lot of money very much! Perhaps you could look at another Guardian article about alternative energy or the environment.

ReplyDeleteAHMED DEL PIERO – thanks for posting. Transport is a fascinating area of technology. Maybe for your next article you could look at the latest technology in each area. For example, you have electric cars on land (a good site is www.teslamotors.com ), new kinds of train (have a look at MAGLEV trains), hydrofoils and jetfoils on the water, and many types of new planes and helicopters (and don’t forget space). Please also try and use your own words as much as possible on this blog.
MAJED – good post, thank you. Communications are one of the areas of technology that is changing very quickly, with devices getting smaller and more powerful. Maybe in your next article you could read about future plans for phones, or maybe GPS or satellite communication.
SAIF – a good topic to read about. Laptops are getting more and more powerful, and maybe one day desk tops will disappear. Perhaps your next article could be on one type of laptop, or maybe about even smaller computers now or in the future. Please try and use your own words as much as possible when you use the blog.

First I searched about iPhone mobile because I think iPhone one of the latest and most mobile that have different and unique technologies in it. I found a very useful article described in it the properties of the iPhone and the writer was positive about it.

ABDULLA SAEED - thank you for this post. It is very clear and shows you have thought about your article. I also think the iPhone is a very elegant device. I have an iPod touch, which is very similar, but doesn't have as many functions. Maybe you could find an article that explains how a touch screen works (just an idea though).
