Richard Week 6 Read and Reflect

Good afternoon guys,

This week I would like you to continue building up your Reading Portfolio. Find another couple of articles on similar (but not the same) technology topics.

How do the topics of the two articles relate to each other?

What do you know about the background to the technologies (history, geography, materials etc.)? What would you like to find out?

Choose three words (in total) from your two articles that you did not know, or did not know well.
What are they, why are they important in the article (s)?

I look forward to reading your comments.

  1. Hi.
Today I’ve looked at two quite wonderful topics which were titled as Digital watch and I pod.
According to the first article I found many brilliant ideas such as the invention of the first digital watch were in 1970 and it developed in 1980s. There are many companies which had big impact in improving the technology such as Seiko and Casio.
For the second article I got few interesting stuff. To begin with, The Apple start making iPod devices on 32/10/2003 and there are several kinds of these devices like iPod touch, nano, iPod classic and a lot of these stuffs.
These two articles are related to each other with few things. To start with, both digital watch and the iPod have a digital screen and displaying the time. Nearly the materials that have been used to make the watch are also used to make the iPod devices.
There are many interesting words in these artial and I have picked the important three such as:
    1. Supervision
    2. Track
    3. Electro-Data
The first two words are related to iPod’s topic because the iPod had a wide screen with supervision and we save the track and play them on iPod devices. The last word matched to digital watch topic because digital watches save the data and have data blanks and links.

  2. Hi
Last night I have looked for two interesting articles one is about the GPS system and the other one is about the I phone
From the first article which is about the GPS system I found a huge amount of useful information about the discovery of this system and how does it work. GPS system is a global navigation satellite system it can be used freely and any where it allows the user of the system to determine the location of the places and the time needed to reach these locations. It is really a useful kind of technology.
And from the second article which was about the I phone I found an information about the different type of this device such as the iPod touch, nano, iPod classic and others also you can use it like mini laptop any where you want

These to articles are related to each other because both of these systems can be carried anywhere also you can say that they might have the same martial also both of them are global navigation satellite system.

I foud some of the new word such as
    1. commerce,
    2. constellation
    3. Civilians
I hope that you enjoy my post
    Have anice week end

  3. GOOD EVENING!!!

I am really very happy because my teacher, Richard, encourages us to read more and more and this is useful to improve our reading skill, anyway let me tell about what I read tonight.

First article that I read was about an electronic dictionary "atlas". It is really a wonderful invention that helps every one in everywhere. It is a small handheld computer with integrated reference materials. In the past it is called "Pocket Electric Translating Machine". It is used to translate words or a written paragraph. Many People use it especially students. It is not only a translator machine however it is also speller device. Most of these can translate to different languages such as Chinese, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Korean and English. Models may also have memory card that can be used for database expansion.

Second article that I read is about USB flash drive. I love this invention very much because it helps me to keep my data that I can carry it with me anywhere. It can be called memory stick or flash memory. So, it is a small and portable flash memory card that can be plugged into a computer and functions as a portable hard drive. It is used to save personal data to use it in any computer. Nowadays, every one have a USB flash drive especially students. It can be a small size such as 250 MB and 1 GB or very big size like 12 GB.

These two devices are very small, therefore they can be carried and kept in the pocket. Both of them can save information to be used later "Personal Data" .Finally, I want to say that our world has been developed more and more every day and many technologies will be invented.

    NEW WORDS_VOCABULARY

    1. Portable
    2. Resemble
    3. Specifically

  5. Hi .. I’d like to remind you that my main article talks about rocketry and I chose two articles about Helicopters and Radars.

First article: - A helicopter is an aircraft that is lifted and propelled by one or more horizontal rotors, each rotor consisting of two or more rotor blades. Helicopters are classified as rotorcraft or rotary-wing aircraft to distinguish them from fixed-wing aircraft because the helicopter achieves lift with the rotor blades which rotate around a mast. The word 'helicopter' is adapted from the French hélicoptère, coined by Gustave de Ponton d'Amecourt in 1861.

Second article: - Radar is a system that uses electromagnetic waves to identify the range, altitude, direction, or speed of both moving and fixed objects such as aircraft, ships, motor vehicles, weather formations, and terrain. The term RADAR was coined in 1941 as an acronym for radio detection and ranging. The term has since entered the English language as a standard word, radar, losing the capitalization. Radar was originally called RDF (Radio Direction Finder) in the United Kingdom.
These two articles relate to each other because helicopters use radars to discover the places or objects. Also watching towers depend on radars to track objects in the sky such as aircrafts (helicopters) or homing missiles

  6. Hi... I’d like to remind you that my main article talks about F-16 fighting falcon and I choose two articles about aircraft flight controls system and RPG7. First article is about aircraft flight controls system. It is new system for aircraft. Also this system consist of flight control surfaces and aircraft engine controls for flight control they change the speed. First I will talk about primary controls is it a cockpit controls. It is use for control yoke and pitch which moves ailerons. In addition they have secondary controls secondary controls available to give the pilot finer control over flight or to ease the workload. Also this system has in every aircraft.
Second article is about RPG7. It is Rocket-propelled grenade weapon. First place was using it in Soviet Union. Now manufactured by the Bazalt company. It is 40 countries use this weapon but nine of this have variants one. It produced in 1961 and using in Vietnam War, Afganistan and Iraq wars.
These two articles related for each other because in future I think put this control system in RPG7 and this system can controls the weapon without using human.
    Respective/ yoke/ aileron
    Grenade / propelled / variants

  7. I came with two new articles the first one talk about the jets aircraft and the second one talk about space shuttles. I know you will ask how they are related to each other, here is the answer both of the two things uses jets to fly. I had more background about what I am searching about. The first thing is the history that these jet aircrafts were designed on paper in 1929 and were used for real in 1940 and engineers continues working on these jets aircraft till they came up with what we see nowadays. The second one which is the space shuttle was used for the first time in 1977 by NASA for scientific things till they reached the other planets. About the materials both of them use the same type of materials for example, stainless steel to resist the high temperature that comes out from the exhausts, steel, aluminum and alloys like titanium. To end with, these are the three words that I had chosen: -
    1-partial reusability
    2-cartridges
    3-stringers

  8. Hi all,
Yesterday, I have looked at two different topics which are cameras and computers. From the first topic, I have found useful information to talk about. To begin with, the first camera was called obscura and it was made from wood box and it was invented by Arabic scientist from Iraq (Ibn-Al-Hytham) in 1015-1021 as described in his book of optics. In 1660, it was devolved by Irish scientist Robert Boyle. Let’s go to the next topic which is computers. In the past, women’s was used to do calculation, that’s why they was called computers. The first developed computer was in the mid of 20th century in 1940 but, the first idea of the computer was in 100 BC. The first program was invented to this computer was work with to numbers (0-1).
In this two topics, I can see that we can’t made an camera without some kind of programming or calculation and the in this century the camera should be stand on our computer screen.

  9. i'm sorry for being late Mr.Richard, but I've selected one of the article that we using it alot.
My article is on how does sound amplefier work..
first of all, let me introduce the sound amplifier;it is an electronic amplifier that amplifies low-power audio signals (signals composed primarily of frequencies between 20 hertz to 20,000 hertz, the human range of hearing) to a level suitable for driving loudspeakers and is the final stage in a typical audio playback chain.
Secondly, how does it work, well; it works in several steps as Electronic sound equipment works the same basic way. It represents sound as a varying electric current. Broadly speaking, there are three steps in this sort of sound reproduction:
Sound waves move a microphone diaphragm back and forth, and the microphone translates this movement into an electrical signal. The electrical signal fluctuates to represent the compressions and rarefactions of the sound wave.
A recorder encodes this electrical signal as a pattern in some sort of medium -- as magnetic impulses on tape, for example, or as grooves in a record.
A player (such as a tape deck) re-interprets this pattern as an electrical signal and uses this electricity to move a speaker cone back and forth. This re-creates the air-pressure fluctuations originally recorded by the microphone.
As you can see, all the major components in this system are essentially translators: They take the signal in one form and put it into another. In the end, the sound signal is translated back into its original form, a physical sound wave.

it takes more than what is written above, but for me i think it's good enough to know that.

my three words are : essentially-fluctuations-rarefactions

  10. Hi
I have been reading lately about modern homes technologies and other related stuff. And these are the articles I picked.

The first one was about ICFs (Insulated concrete Forms) which is a new method of green constructions. I was shocked when I found out that it’s made of polystyrene same as take away coffee cups. At first, I couldn’t understand a word of the article because of the vocabularies which were mainly construction words but after watching couple of videos on ICFs at YOUTUBE website I got the idea.

The second article was about home insulations which are widely use to keeps your house cool in summer, warm in winter, it reduces noise levels and reduction of energy bills.

The two articles are related to building green homes materials which I’m researching for my essay. I liked the technology the use, I see it ……… as an excellent idea.
    But:
I think……….. Will it be used in UAE?
I wander ……….. Is it purely green?

    The chosen word:
    rigid
    deteriorates
    obstructions
